Audi CEO detained in the case of fake data on emissions of diesel engines

The general director of the automobile concern Audi Rupert Stadler was detained on charges of falsifying data about harmful emissions of diesel engines, writes the German Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung.
Earlier, the Munich prosecutor’s office filed a formal charge of fraud and forgery with Stadler and one of the members of the Audi board of directors. Searches were conducted in their homes. To date, the number of defendants in the Audi case has grown to 20.
In parallel with this, the Ministry of Transport of Germany ordered Daimler Concern to recall 774 thousand Mercedes cars, on which equipment was installed that allows them to manipulate emission indicators. Daimler agreed with the claim, but denies that the installed equipment violates the law.

The diesel scandal is almost three years old, and its consequences still have a significant impact on automakers in Germany and other countries. As a result of the investigations initiated by the US authorities in September 2015, Volkswagen was forced to admit that 11 million vehicles were sold all over the world for which software was installed that allowed the engines to be manipulated with tests for compliance with environmental standards. In fact, the exhaust pollution of VW diesel vehicles was 40 times higher than the permissible limits.
In Germany, there are three criminal proceedings for violations of Volkswagen, and Audi is involved in all three.
