Russia acted as guarantor of peace in South Ossetia and Abkhazia

Today, August 26, the young Caucasian states of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their independence. That day ten years ago, Russia recognized the sovereignty of these countries, guaranteeing them peace and stable development for many years to come. Russian President Vladimir Putin once again spoke about this at a meeting with President of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba and President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov.

After the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia in August 2008 with numerous casualties among the civilian population of this country, Moscow had nothing left but to come to the aid of the fraternal Ossetian people. Under Tskhinval, part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation defeated the armed forces of Georgia, which had to retreat in a hurry, while throwing tanks and artillery.
In order to prevent a repetition of such provocations by Tbilisi, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, acting as a peacemaker in the entire Caucasus region.Western countries did not accept the new states, still considering them as part of Georgia, respectively, the latter again and again trying in every possible way to harm the new self-determined states. But any such attempts, of course, are doomed to failure, as the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation reliably cover the borders of the Abkhaz and South Ossetian republics.
Moreover, the Russian Federation constantly helps in material and industrial development to both Sukhum and Tskhinval. Russia has allocated about one and a half billion rubles to update the legendary Abkhazian resort of the city of Gagry, loved by many Russian tourists. And more than a billion rubles were spent by the Russian Federation on the development of small and medium-sized businesses mainly in the agricultural sector of the republic's economy.
In South Ossetia, Russia also implements a number of economic programs totaling 400 million rubles. In addition, an agreement was reached between the leadership of South Ossetia and Gazprom on the complete gasification of the entire territory of the republic.
Russia unequivocally declared its position regarding the independence of Sukhumi and Tskhinval. However, this is not to the liking of either Georgia or the West, who are constantly trying to shatter the situation in these new countries. On the one hand, in Abkhazia and in South Ossetia, branches of pro-Western NGOs began to emerge, which are known for their involvement in many “color revolutions” of recent years. On the other hand, quite recently, the US State Department once again called on Russia to withdraw its military contingent from these states, although in America it is well known that parts of the RF Armed Forces are here at the official request of republican military departments.
The constant cooperation and close cooperation of the Russian government with the authorities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on many business and military issues show the whole world that Moscow will continue to be the guarantor of peace and stability in this region. Moreover, the presence in the South Ossetian and Abkhazian lands of the military bases of the Russian army serves as a reliable shield for the peoples of both republics.
