Lyudmila Fedorova, a visitor of the city hippodrome, reported September 9 about the starving police horses to the information service "Saratov 24". The staff of the hippodrome said that the animals have been in the same room for several months already, no one walks with them and no one cleans them. The situation was commented on by the director of the hippodrome Ekaterina Soboleva.
“They are based here on their own, not paying anything. What is happening in the stable there, I do not know, this is the office of the police. As far as I know, they brought KamAZ oats a few days ago. We must go there and understand, but these are foreign horses. I have no legal right to go in there and say something to them. What is their money situation, I do not know. You understand that now everything is decided by auctions. They ordered a bale of hay for a hundred rubles, and it already costs more to farmers. So the animals suffer. In general, for that matter, there were situations when it was bad with feeds and people were going out to the field. You can and mop and hay mow. It's just that people are indifferent, it's not their horses, you understand. The horses must come people who love them, and not those who ride them and get paid. Their attitude to both a company car is not mine and I don’t care, ”said Ekaterina Soboleva.
On September 10, the regional police said that 22 departmental horses, 12 of which are used for patrol duty, are fed in accordance with the norms and receive 7 kg of hay and 6 kg of oats per day. The head of the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dmitry Rasskazov, said that a regular veterinary assistant of the PPSP regiment was caring for horses, and an individual entrepreneur was also contracted for their care.

The next day, the police and the veterinarian arrived with a check on the Saratov hippodrome. They concluded that the horses are in satisfactory condition.
On September 12, the zoodefender and retired MIA Natalya Zhernova told reporters that horses suffer from exhaustion in the Balashov police.According to her, seven adult horses and a foal live in a stable on Neftyanaya Street - they used to be part of a cavalry regiment, but it was disbanded.
“Some horses no longer admit to themselves. Three horses are not circled, they are not engaged. Caring for horses is not a cheap pleasure, and we, as taxpayers, keep them, although now they do not perform the functions of policing. The foal was born by a miracle in May and is now doomed to such an existence, ”the woman noted, adding that it is better to give the animals to the equestrian club.

On the same day, the regional prosecutor's office reported that they would verify information about police horses starving in Saratov and Balashov.
On September 18, the Saratov Department of the Interior announced electronic auctions for the purchase of more than 40 tons of feed for service horses. The next day, it became known that a police horse, nicknamed Tornado of 1998, had died in a racetrack in Saratov. The press service of the police said that the cause of death of the animal will establish the examination.
The rescuer Alexander Dombrovsky, citing his sources, claimed that it was not the 24-year-old Tornado that had died, as officially announced, but another horse, who was eight years old.According to Dombrowski, the horses were going to be transferred to the regiment of the patrol and patrol service in order to restrict public access to them.
“Now, when all the information has surfaced and the prosecutor’s checks and kipish began, the doors opened for volunteers, you can carry food. Feed, vegetables, fruits, grain. And the guys started to wear, but this is just not enough for now, ”the rescuer notes.
Later, Alexander Dombrovsky deleted the record about horses, specifying that "the situation with feed and care has already been brought to the level."
A local journalist, Elena Nalimova, said that volunteers brought food to police horses several times - at first there were no problems with his transfer, but then they stopped letting him into the stable. According to Nalimova, on September 24, Saratov police will officially announce what they have decided to do with these horses.
